How it All Started
About 15 years ago my family had the pleasure of becoming close friends with Mike and Steve Melia…about 13 years ago Kim Melia joined the bunch and seriously my life hasn’t been the same since then-so let me explain.
Mike, Steve and Kim Melia started an organization called the Melia Foundation, where every year they have chosen a special person, family or organization to raise money to help whatever that specific need is. One year it was for a business partner who was fighting cancer and had massive medical bills, another the Boys and Girls Club, Make a Wish Foundation…
However a couple months ago Mike Melia was riding home after a business trip and just happened to sit next to a man who had a very unique bracelet on and Mike asked if it meant anything. This amazing man began to tell Mike about the bracelet, that it was from Guatemala and that he got it because he had been a regular volunteer at this Orphanage. Mike was so moved by the story that he stroked a $1000 right on the spot…that next week Mike received pictures of what that money did at the orphanage…ya see the difference in this Orphanage is that 100% of all the proceeds go directly to the orphanage, there is no “filter” if you will or salaries taken out-the money goes straight to the kids-that’s pretty much unheard of these days.
So, after that amazing experience Mike, Kim & Steve all decided to take on the biggest fundraiser yet…their goal is to raise $72,000 so that the girls at the orphanage can have their own home. Right now the girls aren’t staying over night at the orphanage-they have been dispersed out to different locations because there wasn’t enough room at the current orphanage to have the girls in a separate place (and with the boys and girls getting older and hormones all on the rise-you can imagine).
So What Now?
This past weekend was a HUGE success…in Orlando Florida the Melia Family and their team came together for a convention and the entire time wrapped in with the Orphans Hope Project fund raising.
It all started with a long and hot but oh so fun Golf Tournament, then early to rise and sweat out some of the “festivities from the night before” 5k run/walk, & finally a super exciting Live Auction hosted by Comedian Steve Melia!
We went into the event with $14k being raised and walked out with $38,000 more added to the pot…we are so close to the $72,000 and this project only started a couple months ago.

What’s this all Mean?
*This means to me that even in this economy people have hearts the size of Texas.
*This means to me that like attracts like and I’m fortunate to be surrounded by the kind of people that do have hearts in the right place.
*This means that the girls in the orphanage will have a safe, warm, loving, comforting place to lay their head until they grow up and move out.
*This means that every boy and girl in that orphanage will know that they are loved 100% by people that hardly know them; this doesn’t replace the loss of parents by no means but does provide some light, comfort, joy, and encouragement that honestly anything is possible if you just put yourself out there.
*This means that if we can raise $72,000 in this economy in a few short months to help “strangers” in need that we can do even more next year and not to mention if we can do this for others then we can earn great money ourselves if we have the same type of energy we put out there on whatever we are working on.
*This means that Mike, Kim & Steve Melia along with all the other contributors will leave a life long home for the children of the future even when we are gone from this life…future generations will be touched with this gift forever!
*This means, seriously, that we have no limits to what we can do as a team when the cause is heart felt!
