
Laughter of the Soul
You know most don’t even think of laughter as a healing activity but for me personally I can say “it does my body and soul good”.
I have seen an influx of articles, magazines, books and even Yoga classes that are focused all on laughter…who would have thought, such a simple activity could be doing so much good int he world.
Healing Benefits of Laughing
- Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
- Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
- An increase in gamma interferon, which tells various components of the immune system to “turn on”
- Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
- Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems
- An increase in the number and activity level of natural killer cells that attack viral infected cells and some types of cancer and tumor cells.
- An increase in activated T cells (T Lymphocytes). There are many T cells that away activation. Laughter appears to tell the immune system to “turn it up a notch”
- An increase in the antibody IgA (Immunoglobulin A), which fights upper respiratory tract insults and infections.
- An increase in IgB, the immunoglobulin produced in the greatest quantity in body, as well as an increase in the Complement 3, which helps antibodies to pierce dysfunctional or infected cells. The increase in both substances was not only present while subjects watched a humor video; there also was a lingering effect that continued to show increased levels the next day.
Laughter is FREE
Before immersing ourselves with unnecessary pills, surgery’s or just lying there with no hopes of a physical or mental recovery from what ails us, why not laugh-just s simple noise that resides in us all, that could heal our soul from the inside out. (not to mention all the other health benefits)
Why is it that we rely on so many things outside of us that doctors recommend to help us with injuries when we have one of the most primordial healing gifts we’ve ever been given, Laughter.
So Laugh, Laugh, Laugh, even when it’s hard to and just feel how amazing your body, soul and mind feel!
