Journey of Health
My journey of health began really before I was born when my parents began their own health journey with a network marketing company called, Shaklee. My mom made it a point to have a very healthy pregnancy and then as a small child I was raised taking vitamins every single day.
My mom decided to also have me on a sugarless diet, of which was super healthy but as a young child sometimes embarrassing because everyone else was eating things I wasn’t allowed to…looking at that today though I’m super grateful because I’m so much healthier than the average person (in my opinion at least).
Stepping Away from Living Healthy
Once I graduated high school I was more concerned about partying; I really made some poor decisions for many years. I drank, did drugs, and didn’t eat the right foods…as a result my day to day life was filled with headaches, stomach issues, bad cramps, then allergies for the first time in my life.
Back on a Path of Health
The allergies got so bad that I was on many different medicines that the doctor prescribed to help with the allergies-but really they did nothing but mask the issues, not treat it. My mom suggested that I stop drinking milk and eating cheese-I did and sure enough in 30 days my allergies were gone never to return. I’ve never had to take any meds for allergies at all in 8 years.
About a year later I found out I was pregnant and this is what really put me back on the path of health and well being…I spent much of my free time researching and educating myself on how to have a healthy pregnancy. I started taking vitamins again, making better food choices and exercising again.
Right now I’ve only had 3 antibiotics in 30 years, I try to make the best choices of food, nutrition and activities that promote my body to feel good, have energy and overall stay healthy. Not everyone understands this passion of mine, many people also think it takes too much time, energy and money to research like I do and buy the supplements and food that I do. This is the way I look at my lifestyle; it’s a choice to naturally have a healthy life without depending on the unnatural pills or unnecessary surgeries that most people rely on. I don’t have expensive doctor bills nor insurance. I choose to put my dollar where I capitalize on the God Given healing powers I know I have.
The Slight Edge of Health
Jeff Olson said in his book “The Slight Edge” that basically every day we make thousands of small decisions that seem to make no difference while making them but over time the compound effect is HUGE. This is so true with how we eat…one McDonald’s hamburger won’t cause you to have a heart attack-if it did no one would eat them ever again. Over and over eating unhealthy items though will cause different aliments or disease in the body-of which we can’t attribute to just one food choice we make but rather the years of food choices we have made.
So in effect, it just takes small decision making skills on our parts to begin living a healthier life…some people though just don’t know where to start or they are so ill, overweight, unsatisfied with their body that they don’t have a clue what to do…
How Can You Begin a Journey into Health
In this hustle and bustle life we live it’s so easy not to really listen to our bodies because of the responsibilities/lists that we are often trying to accomplish…however, if you want to begin a journey into health I would suggest a free and easy way that doesn’t take anything more than just taking time to really chew your food (which aids the digestion process) and after you finish eating just pay attention to your body. “Listen” to what it’s trying to tell you-do you feel sluggish, do you feel energized, do you feel sick? Take note of how your body feels and what food you ate and make note of it. Notice when you eat certain foods over and over how your body feels.
The second thing I suggest is to just make the best choices in food as you are presented with them each day. No matter if you are at the grocery store, deli, restaurant, school cafeteria there are always healthier choices you can make over processed foods-sticking with raw foods, low sugar foods, and veggies are always a good start.
I would love to hear how you feel about living health…comment bellow!
