So Many Are Fat & Sassy

Ok, so I hope that I’m not going to make anyone angry here…but at some point I actually would hope that someone would get a little fire behind them to help me and others out there that are passionate about changing this pattern of people-especially children-being that so many are very unhealthy.

To me life should be lived and lived with lots of energy to live out our life’s purpose…when did society get to this point of just working a job to pay bills, eating whatever fits into our money and time budget?  It’s a big rat race that only lend it’s self to more working and high doctor bills with a short life expectancy.

As I look around I see so many of our youth overweight and many have diabetes-not to mention ADD/ADHD, autism, etc…our society has over the past 100 years programed us to work for other people, not to be free thinkers/leaders, to eat what is given to us, trust people with our health, and not to question what’s really the best for us.  In essence we have become drones if you ask me.

Who’s To Blame?

I know I’m going to step on some toes here…but WE ARE TO BLAME.  Each of us who has let this thought pattern arise in our lives and dictate how we live…it’s US that are responsible for our lives-not doctors, not our parents, not anyone but us.

It takes a lot of courage to step out and really take responsibility for our health but it’s liberating at the same time to step out of the fog that so many are in and begin the amazing and fun journey of well being.

OUT OF CONTROL

So many act in a daily way that’s totally unconscious and really have no clue what harm they are doing…let me explain.

My 6 year old knows more about natural well being that most adults in their 50′s…I’ve spent a lot of time educating her and her brother on how to build up a natural immune system so we don’t have to rely on unnatural drugs or unnecessary surgeries that 99% of people get these days because a DOCTOR recommends it.  (I’m not knocking all doctors here but we can talk on this subject later more in detail because I think our doctors are taught in a broken system, which leads to a broken medial system)

So Skylar knows that we should consume very little processed sugars…she knows the difference between processed white sugar and organic cane sugar-that if she has the choice she will choose organic cane sugar.  All that to say this…school for her was very interesting in this department.  First of all, I’ve never seen so much damn candy come home every week than when she started going to school this past year.  They reward the kids with candy, parties have candy, holidays have candy, you get the idea.

Well Skylar is smart, she asks all the time what the ingredients are in the candy, cupcake, etc…her teaches with all good intentions would laugh and poke fun at Skylar for being so “adult” and asking such questions.

Several months ago I went to drop Skylar off at school, I went in the classroom to help her with her stuff…the teacher said did you see the picture of Sky on the door when you came in.  I hadn’t seen the picture so I went back out of the room only to find ONE picture, of Skylar, with NO ONE ELSE…it was just Skylar chewing into an icing covered cupcake.  The teacher thought it was so cute that Skylar had decided to actually eat something that most kids just eat whenever they are given a chance…

Then one day Skylar came home a couple weeks ago and mentioned to me that the teacher had informed her not to listen to me (her mom) and that it was ok to eat the candy they had for the day….I thought I was going to loose it, I felt totally out of control and was LIVID.

I did communicate my frustrations with the teachers and they seemed to understand but let’s step back and evaluate something…what’s normal?

What’s “NORMAL”

When did it become so normal to be “fat & sassy” (overweight), when did it become ok to have childhood diabetes through the roof???

Here you have a child who’s not afraid of those things but yet wants to live a healthy life and actually understands how to do that all the while preventing obesity, diabetes, among a million other things and she get’s singled out…THAT IS OUT OF CONTROL.  Normal shouldn’t be what the world says but what we say it is and I’m standing up for our Universal Right to LIVE HEALTHY, to LIVE FREE, and LIVE in a world where we treat our bodies, the earth, and people around us with dignity and great care.

It’s Up To Us

It’s up to us to begin a real relationship with our bodies, that’s one reason I LOVE Yoga so much because it’s helped me get in touch with my body so much more than ever before…I mean when is the last time that you really trusted your body over a doctor’s advise?  Not many would admit they do that…I read a fact today though that out of 30,000 children who weren’t vaccinated that NOT ONE CHILD HAD AUTISM. I’m not diving into this subject right now, cause good lord I know I could but the fact of the matter is if we don’t just begin to listen to our body, our heart and question those people who we give so much power to in our lives (doctors, teachers, etc) then we will die fat and sassy and to the world it will be normal cause everybody because so many people have those same issues…

“Somehow eating right became elitist, didn’t it, that eating the right foods somehow is something that a lot of this country looks on as very suspect, kinda democratic politics, eating good food, shopping at Whole Foods…” Bill Maher

    Hi..
Its been a long time since I have seen such a passionate post. While I am totally with you on the teachers trying to undermine what you have taught your children, I know I have learned a lot by being the fat girl. Does it compensate for the health risks? Yeah, sometimes it does.

Being the fat girl ALL of my 31 years, I have come to realize the key to my–and anyone's–beauty lies on the inside. I've learned to be less judgmental. I've learned to love others as they are while being able to support them when they are ready to make positive changes in their lives. And so much more!

I'd not trade a ounce of my life lessons for a minute of being thin. Yes, I do wish I could shop at normal places for clothes and be sure they would have my size. Yeah, I'd like to be a bit healthier. And I am working on all of this from the right place. I am not working on loosing the pounds to look good but to be here for as long as possible.

I am not saying being overweight is a goal for anyone. I am saying that IF one is overweight, they should embrace and love who they are NOW before trying to make any other changes in life. I think the real travesty is how we teach our children that there is only one kind of beauty in people via advertisements, videos, TV and Movies.

    You are Divinely AMAZING!!!

Being overweight I know is such a touchy subject for many and I'm so proud of you for living from the place that it seems you are living-from your heart. To me it's all about being healthy, so I'm glad you aren't trying to fit into “barbie clothes” but rather moving to a place of being consciously healthy-so we can really live a long time. I think you are on the best path anyone can be on.

I'm so excited that you know for real that beauty lies on the inside and it's such a powerful place to operate from that you treasure your life lessons more than the fleeting thought of being “thin”…I heard it once said that we are in life just in a life size school, the world is our playground and what we do with it is up to us.

Together if we support one another in this spiritual life we are living and treat our “humanness” with the best possible treatment that we can we will have an amazing, passion filled, dynamo life! I support you 100%.

Well. Thank you! I am flattered by this reply to what I wrote. :)

What I didn't agree with is the underlying theme that “fat and sassy” is a bad thing AND the statement that it has become “normal” or okay to be so. I AM extremely overweight…however I feel that most measures of ideal weight are wrong…no way I would be healthy at 150 lbs! And most overweight people are mildly overweight. It won't hurt them long run (for the most part) yet society makes them feel less than! While I don't think YOU would support such things at all, our societal norms DO need a good fixing.

I hope this made sense…just woke up from a nap…if not I apologize! I want to thank you for your words of encouragement and support. Its amazing how far they can go :)

    Good words Sharla!

As one who has fought the weight battle most of his life(I am 5'7″ & have weighed as much as 323lbs):-))….I understand what you are saying.

I have always been able to lose the weight but in times past I have not had the committment or dedication to keep it off. Today , at age 55 I am FINALLY changing not just my Body(I have lost 55lbs since Sept. 09)…But changing HOW I view eating (eating to LIVE instead of LIVING to eat…LOL) as well as Eating the Correct foods.

It is so hard as I relate to your struggle(have 2 grandbabies & 1 starts Kindergarden this fall)…& it seems the schools just serve JUNK for lunches & many foods we consume today are PROCESSED.

Thanks for bringing this Topic to light!
